What I’ve learned is that hotels will reserve a room for bookings made through a 3rd party. And these rooms are heavily used and sometimes in disrepair, as mine was. I complained and they changed my room to one in good condition. But this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. This experience is not unique to hotels.com or El Cordova. I usually try to book direct for this reason. But other circumstances led me to use hotels.com this time.
