Photo "The Church dates from 1060 with a 12th/13th C. nave, and north aisle from 1250 - south aisle is 14th C. The chancel is 12/13th C. and may have had an apse, sedilia and piscina on south side of sanctuary are 13th C. The tower was added in the 15th C. The original timber framed spire was destroyed in the Great Storm of 1987 and was replaced with a steel framed version with chestnut shingles at 165 feet. The font is Norman and was lost for years until found nearby being used as a cattle trough! St Denys' church is well known for its wall paintings which date from 13th C. onwards. They were covered over and only discovered in 1893. There is an impressive 15th C. doom painting with Christ seated on a rainbow with the virgin Mary and St John. The Neville chapel is in the north east corner of the church, named after the Neville branch of the Abergavenny family who were Lords of the Manor from 1450. The church is a Grade I listed building." by Jules & Jenny (Creative Commons Attribution 2.0) / Cropped from original

Alternative Accommodations – Hostels

Best Hostels in Rotherfield

Travel is all about experiences, whether you’re trekking across the world or just miles away from home. And while you may think of backpacking students when cheap hostels come to mind, modern-day hostels appeal to a much more diverse group of people. Hostels are traditionally beloved as a great way to meet fellow travelers and as a more affordable option to hotels. They’re the perfect place to rest for the night and then get up and go on your next day of exploring Rotherfield and beyond.

What is the difference between a hostel and a hotel?

It’s customary for hostels to contain multiple bunk beds in a dorm-style room to be shared with friends (or strangers). So, can couples stay in hostels? The short answer is yes. Some of the best hostels in the world (and maybe even in Rotherfield) are private room hostels that feature larger beds and more privacy. There are even bookable accommodations that offer family hostel rooms that provide even more space. Hostels are more commonly found internationally, but USA hostels are beginning to pop up around the country.

If secluded quarters and quiet accommodations are a priority to you during your travels, there are boutique and luxury hostels that offer upgraded private rooms, elevated décor, and higher end amenities. It’s possible to get the affordability and energy of a hostel with some elements of privacy that you’d usually only find by staying in a hotel.
