Vézelay Abbey or Abbaye Sainte-Marie-Madeleine de Vézelay is a Benedictine and Cluniac monastery in Vézelay in the Yonne department in northern Burgundy, France. The Benedictine abbey church, now the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, with its complicated program of imagery in sculpted capitals and portals, is one of the outstanding masterpieces of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture. Sacked by the Huguenots in 1569, the building suffered neglect in the 17th and the 18th centuries and some further damage during the period of the French Revolution.

The church and hill at Vézelay were added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

"Bonjour tout le monde j'ai trouvé l'hôtel très sympathique bien situé pas loin de la nationale... La chambre est jolie et propre et dispose d'un balcon et d'une double baie vitrée. Comme la chambre n'est pas climatisée vous avez à disposition un grand ventilateur. La literie est très confortable. Vous avez aussi un parking dans l'hôtel et le quartier semble calme. Le petit déjeuner est copieux et de qualité. Le personnel d'accueil est très aimable...je recommande cet hôtel pour ceux qu'ils...

"Friendly lovely athmosphere shabby chic with emphasis on shabby ... room was very musty smelling and shower drain blocked ... slight sense of impoverished neglect. Very bizarre dinner for Burgundy. Asian veg wraps with soy dipping sauce followed by poussin with rice and ... soy dipping sauce. Then really murky pud: some kind of stodgy cake. Not good. Nobody ate it. Nice ice cream. Delicious bottle of Bordeaux at good price. "
