“I was really looking forward to my stay at The Candlesticks. However as soon as I entered, I began to have my doubts. The bar area, where the owner received us, looked particularly shabby and it smelt musty. It was 3pm (an hour after checking-in should have started) and the room wasn't ready. It wasn't such a big deal, but it was another warning sign. I was in a single room, which made a certain saying about a cat spring to mind. “Excellent hotel, very comfortable bed, lovely linen & towels. Everything you needed in the room. The staff have to be commended, the 2 ladies on both reception, bar and restaurant were exceptional couldn’t have done enough for you. Food in restaurant we would highly recommend. Breakfast very good, so organised. Thankyou for a lovely dtay we will definitely be back if in the area.”

“Very welcoming staff and comfortable stay, we enjoyed eating at the pub too and were able to run a tab on the room which was very convenient. Breakfast was fantastic and varied. Parking was a bit tricky on arrival but was sorted, it’s worth getting in touch before arrival to understand arrangements for this. Would definitely stay again if we visit Oakham in future”
