“We had a pleasant stay. The grounds was beautiful. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a short visit. We stayed in the west wing section with a view to the garden. The rooms are not large in size with a double bed. It's a simple, no-frills place with basic amenities, but it delivered exactly what we expected. “No advance warning from reception or in the room guide that there is no dinner service on Sunday nights. Without a car (my case) a very real problem and only after serious complaint from myself (80) and friend (91) were cheese sandwiches made (and charged). Rooms on the road are appallingly noisy due to heavy traffic if one needs to sleep with an open window. “Avoid a room above the bar because of the noise. I think it must get its 3 star rating from the rooms in the new areas. The food was very mediocre. For food I would recommend The Fox Hole which is around a 5 minute walk. The setting saved my stay because it was lovely to sit by the river. The staff were very nice.”
