“Location worked well for us. Small room with en-suite. Out the back for a country pub. Ample parking nearby. Room not great at keeping noise out - could hear footsteps overhead from residents upstairs and voices carried across the count yard late at night. As it was warm needed to windows open so more easily disturbed by noise. The bed was super creaky too, which was annoying and disturbing in the dead of night! “Very friendly reception from the landlord Gareth who provided a most enlivening atmosphere in the Duke of Wellington ie a darts match for the men and Easter wreath making for the ladies. No food unfortunately but we found an excellent Italian restaurant in nearby Northallerton. The courtyard room was clean and comfortable, marred only by a very awkward shower - not easy to enter, due to lack of space.”

If, like me, you don’t have a var, it's within walkin distance of supermarket, local tourist bus which goes to all local attractions, including the Abbey. Be aware the loft appartment is up 3 flights of stairs, but once you reach it, it is very quaint and an ideal base. I was there when it was very strong winds and heavy rain, but the flat js very snug and warm so I was pleasantly surprised. Well stocked...
