Overall, there were certain aspects of my stay at RIU Palace Punta Cana that I enjoyed, but there are several areas that I believe need significant improvement. First, the bathrooms are in need of updating. The showers feel old and outdated, and the water pressure was disappointing. The toilet also had extremely poor water pressure and did not function as well as I would expect from a RIU Palace resort. The restaurant situation was another major concern. There were not enough restaurants open to properly accommodate the number of guests staying at the resort. Since guests are not allowed to make reservations, it was often difficult to get into the restaurants. This left many guests with no real option other than going to the buffet. RIU should consider opening more restaurants or implementing a reservation system so guests can better plan their dining experience. I was also very disappointed with the quality of the drinks. Both the alcoholic beverages and basic non-alcoholic drinks seemed to rely heavily on artificial syrups and flavorings, which gave them a very unpleasant aftertaste. At an all-inclusive resort, guests should be able to enjoy good-quality drinks. Using better mixers, real juices, and higher-quality ingredients would greatly improve the experience. The RIU parties were also far too overcrowded. Guests from multiple RIU resorts are brought together for the same party, resulting in an overwhelming number of people at one event. I stayed here for 4 nights and 5 days for a friends birthday (all girls). Overall, the hotel is beautiful. There were lots of pools, restaurant options, and amenities. The food was way better than a lot of other resorts that I’ve stayed in. Now, let’s get to the bad. We stayed in the swim up room with the pool view so it came with VIP Concierge service. We didn’t bother our concierge much, but when we asked her for anything she was useless. The last day, I spoke to her 3 hours prior to my leaving (she said we only needed to tell them 15 minutes beforehand) and asked if she could have someone come to the room to get our 4 bags and pick us up with the cart and take us to the front. She confirmed that they would be there, and I even confirmed again 30 minutes before. Basically no one showed up and she stopped responding to my WhatsApp text and calls. We walked with 4 bags to the lobby and the staff saw us struggling and did not try to help. Red, an entertainment worker, was the best thing there. The entertainment people were lovely. The rooms and building hall we stayed in smelled like mildew. So did our friends room. It looked like they were renovating so maybe that will change. Loved the food, the amenities, Red and the entertainment staff, but the concierge and smell of the rooms need upgrading.
