I’ve stayed at the Riu in Cancun four times, and unfortunately, each visit seems to get worse. This most recent stay will definitely be my last. The food was extremely disappointing. The Sports Bar food was so salty that it was almost impossible to eat. I mentioned it multiple times, but no one seemed to care or make any effort to improve it. The buffet and other restaurants were also nowhere near the quality I would expect from a resort like this. The service was another major problem. Many staff members seemed willing to help only when they expected a good tip. Otherwise, some were rude and dismissive. What made it even worse was hearing staff members make negative comments about guests in Spanish, apparently assuming we couldn’t understand them. I do understand Spanish, and that was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. The property itself also had several maintenance issues, including leaks around the resort and even near restaurant and buffet areas. For the amount of money guests pay to stay here, the overall condition, food quality, and level of service are unacceptable. I kept returning because I had good experiences here in the past, but the quality has continued to decline every time I visit. This stay was by far the worst. I will not be returning, and based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.
