Vacations Close To Detroit Opera House

My first stay here. The place felt safe and clean from the minute I got there. Check in was easy, parking was easy and in a really secure lot. A previous reviewer said parking wasn’t free, but it is. Stayed in the smallest queen room which felt big enough for us. Room was clean and cozy. Walls were paper thin but we always travel with a sound machine so that quieted any sound from neighbors. Bed was very comfortable. My two complaints - I ordered something from the coffee shop which was on their limited menu and the girl working the coffee shop rudely said they don’t have that. No apology for them being out. I ordered coffee down the road instead. The other complaint was the shower was luke warm. Other than those two things our stay was really enjoyable and I would stay again.

Everything was great. However, there is an obvious leak in the bathroom ceiling coming from the room above. Appears to have been patched previously but paint is now peeling back and water dripping onto toliet seat

Rooms were very clean, and the staff extremely helpful. The hotel is about 7 blocks to CoAmerican Ball park and the people mover is about 500 feet. Staff very friendly and was so helpful helping us move around the city. Yes, I would stay

Four days before our trip our plans changed so I tried canceling the 1st night of our weekend stay. The front desk staff told me they would work with Expedia (who I booked through) to cancel the first night. Two days later (now the last day I can cancel or change the reservation per their policy) my Expedia reservation had not updated. I called the hotel again to cancel and the lady I spoke with said I had to cancel through the app. I let her know that would cancel our entire reservation because it was for multiple nights and I only needed to cancel one night. She said they were sold out for the weekend so I needed to call Expedia. I called Expedia, the Rep was very helpful and said he contacted the property and a Manager was going to call him back. "No need to worry, Expedia will take care of the reservation change on their end."Later I checked the app again, still said 2 nights. I messaged Expedia and they said they were still working on it and would have it solved by the next day. The next day (1 day before original check in), the app still said 2 nights. I called the hotel and they said Expedia couldn't change a reservation, I needed to do it through the hotel, but now it was past the free cancelation timeframe. I could cancel the 1st night's reservation, but the fee was the same as the price of our room. I called Expedia, they said the hotel wouldn't respond to their requests. I am SO frustrated! I feel like the hotel dragged this out so I couldn't cancel or change!!

The Foundation is a lovely historic hotel in downtown Detroit with modern amenities and beautiful furnishings. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated (with a wonderful cozy robe!), the restaurant/bar is lively and the gym is large with a full range of equipment, including Peloton bikes. I will definitely stay there again!

We stayed here for two nights. It’s close enough to downtown to be walkable. We walked to and from Comerica Park with ease. Valet service was quick and convenient (cost $40 per night). We booked a King room through Expedia but when checked in we got two double/full beds. The front desk was able to switch us into a king because they had availability. The staff at the front desk was kind and helpful. My husband forgot his toothbrush and was able to get both a toothbrush and toothpaste from the front desk. Each guest gets a complimentary Faygo or bag of Bettermaid chips with their stay for a “taste of Detroit” which we thought was cool. We did not visit the Trolley Room during our stay. Likewise, room service was available but we did not use it. The room was clean, and the bed was soft. Not loud within the hotel but Friday night was loud outside the window until about 12:00-1:00 AM. Blackout curtains were in the room. The shower pressure isn’t favorable and depending on the time of day you shower, there may not be much hot water left. I showered in the morning around 8:30/9:00 and the water was lukewarm. Housekeeping staff was friendly. Overall this was a great stay for us and one of the more budget friendly options that stayed close to downtown Detroit.
