“I was really looking forward to my stay at The Candlesticks. However as soon as I entered, I began to have my doubts. The bar area, where the owner received us, looked particularly shabby and it smelt musty. It was 3pm (an hour after checking-in should have started) and the room wasn't ready. “This was a 3 night stay, with 11 other golfers, in the heart of Wantage, It is an old property in the town square. Rooms were small but adequate. Bathroom was well maintained and clean. (Nice towels). We dined there once and breakfasted three times. Food was good. Service was very professional and friendly. The bar was well stocked and lively whilst we were there. Only criticism was the hotel seemed very warm especially in the room. I had a fan and could open the window etc but it did not...

“The room was very clean and a comfy bed. However VERY dissapointed with the breakfast. Would have preferred somewhere to sit down and eat rather than perch on the bed, breakfast cereals and pastries available just outside the room, but nowhere to sit down and no milk, only found a very small amount of little pods of milk for drinks. However as we didn't use the wardrobe, to store clothes, it was only on leaving and doing a routine check, thatxwe found a small fridge with milk in.”
