“A wonderful old country house for an overnight stay. The staff were exceptional, from check-in, through evening meal, to check-out. Welcoming, friendly and professional. We had an excellent meal in The Grill. The view from our room was spectacular.”

“The reason I haven’t scored 5 is that Expedia sold us a room that had issues with noise / cooking smells as it’s above the kitchen and is noisey and smelly when the staff are cooking. We stayed in a room named Helvellyn and Expedia didn’t state any issues with any rooms. If we had booked direct with the queens head it details the room helvellyn as having issues with noise etc due to it’s proximity to the kitchen. “We have stayed in this Hotel on many occasions. It has recently been taken over by new owners, so improvement works are underway but did not interfere with our enjoyment. Disappointed to discover at check out we had to pay for parking at £15 per day. This was not the case in the past, when parking was free for residents. “We booked one of the nicer rooms. It seemed like a renovation project had been started but not finished. Half the wooden floor had been sanded and in places patched, the rest was stained. Shower was a clunky 70’s spa tub which ran hot and cold without any changes to the lever. Cupboard with glass doors was missing glass in one of them. Exterior of the hotel looked run down. “Upon arrival, our host quickly checked us in. The room was clean and comfortable. The property is conveniently located between the town center and Lake Windermere. We used it as a base to get to Helvellyn for a great day hike. The breakfast room and breakfast are wonderful and well worth the sitting. Overall a wonderful experience!”
