The reality of the island is far from what is advertised: ​No Beach: The beach in front of the hotel no longer exists; it has been completely washed away by the sea. Instead of sand, you will find a long line of sandbags along the coast trying to stop the erosion. ​Dead Coral Reef: The reef right in front is completely dead. “Unfortunately room.was not cleaned properly on arrival. I was too tired though to say anything. The staff were good though. Just a request to ensure a room is clean before a new guest. Was told area was not so safe to walk alone at night, which is sad as I love Cairns. Thank you.”

Some room key cards were broken, and the large opening around the lock was covered only by a cheap plastic panel that could easily be removed by hand. I was also shocked that housekeeping entered my room twice while I was in the shower, without warning... These issues made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe during my stay.”
