Staying in the village was definitely the way to go when visiting Mt Cook. The alternative was to stay in Twizel, which is 60kms away. We were here the only day it was clear sunny skies, the only day in over two weeks.

Heavy rains, thundershower when we were visiting there so we never saw Mt. Cook!

We went in early April and did the Ball Hut hike. Well worth the 6 hr round trip to the bottom of Tasman Glacier right below the mountain
