"We stayed at Oohira hotel in October to use it as a base for hiking. It is perfectly located, near the top end of Zao Onsen, right next to the base of the mountain and the big Zao outdoor onsen. We found it with no issues, and the hotel will pick you up from the bus station if you call in advance. The main thing to stand out for us at Oohira was the staff, who were really excellent throughout. They even spoke some English which was surprising and welcome! "Great location if you are planning on skiing. Cosy little hotel, alittle tired, but clean. Staff very hospitable, and pleasant,only to keen to try and help .Not a lot of English. Service was great.They pick up and drop off as required, this made it much easier to get around. Could rent skis from there, as well as pay for lift pass. Could also purchase other day tours from there. Breakfast was great."

"Nice business hotel. The public bath is small but there’s no extra charge for using so it’s ok. Breakfast is nice with enough choices. "
