Aydat Lake is the largest natural lake in Auvergne (65 ha). The lake comes from retaining the River Veyre by a lava flow (* The cheire Aydat). The cheire Aydat is actually the result of two lava flows, one end of the Puy de la Vache and the other Puys Lassolas. The dating of calcined wood fragments found under the lava gives an age of about 7700 years this common casting.
