Overview

Get an immersive day tour of Sweden’s Viking history on this semi-private experience (maximum of 10 guests). You will be picked up from your hotel and travel through the scenic countryside as your qualified tour guide unravel Viking history. You will visit a Viking Causeway bridge and enjoy the story of the Viking lord Jarlabanke. Next, you will visit one of the best-preserved Viking assemblies and learn about the Viking social culture. By the Viking parliament, you have a great view of Lake Vallentuna (photo opportunity). After this, we head to Granby Viking farm, an archeological site with house foundation remnants from the Viking age. We will have a coffee break at the farm before our last stop in Sigtuna, the oldest Swedish town. Here we will make a guided walking tour for about an hour and you will have about 30-45 minutes to walk around on your own in the town before heading back to Stockholm. We will drop you off at your hotel or other preferred location in the city center.

Jarlabanke Runestones

An old Viking site known as Jarlabankis causeway bridge. It was built a thousand years ago by a Viking lord called Jarlabanki. Learn about why he built it and what the rune stones at the site tell us about this self-confident Viking and his powerful family. Get an understand for Viking roads, causeway bridge building and how these vital communications contributed to the emergence of the Swedish kingdom. We spend approximately 20 minutes on the site and the travel time to the tour stop is roughly 30 minutes.
Arkils tingstad

Visit an old Viking assembly called Arkils Tingstad. The site is one of the best preserved Viking assemblies in the world. The Viking assembly meetings where held outdoors and the stone structure is preserved from the Viking age. Learn about the social culture of the Vikings, the laws and take a look at the lake that is located by the site. The travel time to the stop is about 10 minutes and we spend approximately 20 minutes at the tour stop.

Visit Granby, a modern Swedish farm with an archaeological Viking farm site. Granby with its foundations from an old settlement (400–500 AD). Here we find the biggest rune rock carving in Sweden – Granbyhällen. The carving has a text that tells us about the Viking family who owned the farm a thousand years ago. From the text we can hypothesize about family relations, inheritance rights and more. Learn about the Viking farms and everyday life of the Vikings in Scandinavia as you stand inside of the Viking longhouse foundation. Before leaving Granby you will have time for a coffee break in an old cozy farmhouse. You will travel for a while along a dwindling gravel road (that follows its original Viking age stretching) and pass by small traditional red cottages. The travel time to the tour stop is about 15 minutes and we stay at the location for approximately 45 minutes.
Sigtuna

A guided sightseeing drive and visit to the oldest Swedish town. You can either walk on your own during your time in the town or take a guided tour with the guide. Sigtuna is more than a thousand years old and the Old Town has kept its original Viking age street layout. Many excavations have taken place and you can see the best findings if you visit the museum on your own. As you walk along the main street (Stora gatan) you will enjoy the views of 18th century wooden houses. You can visit small independent shops that sells everything from designer clothing to handmade local chocolate and candy. The travel time to Sigtuna from Granby is about 40 minutes and we will be in Sigtuna for about 80 minutes. These 80 minutes will be a mix of a guided walking tour and some time on your own. Guests can walk on their own during the whole duration in Sigtuna if they prefer to do that.
