What you can expect
Tulipanomania is the highlight of spring at Parco Giardino Sigurtà, but the floral stars of the season are not only the one million tulips that, together with grape hyacinths, hyacinths, and daffodils, color the park’s vast lawns in March and April. The spotlight also shines on irises with their vibrant yellow, orange, purple, and pale pink petals; the Dogwood tree, which takes on delicate pink hues; and the fabulous peonies—also known as “thornless roses”—in shades of red, pink, purple, yellow, and white.
May is the symbolic month of roses, with thousands of blooms flourishing in two elegant varieties along the Viale delle Rose (Avenue of Roses), an iconic view known even beyond Italy’s borders, as well as in various corners of the Garden. A unique touch of beauty in light purple tones and cyclamen nuances comes from the ornamental alliums and annual plants such as impatiens and sunpatiens, blooming in delicate shades of white, pink, and red. Not to be missed are also the Weigela, Viburnum, and Spirea.
In summer, the undisputed queens of the ponds are the multicolored water lilies, both tropical and hardy varieties, which create an aquatic kingdom in the Garden along with water hyacinths, delicate lotus flowers, and papyrus plants. On the lawns and flowerbeds, visitors can admire sunflowers, zinnias, canna lilies, sun-loving sunpatiens, bright orange marigolds, coleus, petunias, purple basil, and many other blooms. Hydrangeas grace the curved path dedicated to them in June and July, while the Viale delle Aiuole Fiorite (Avenue of Flowerbeds) bursts into color with over 30 varieties of dahlias. The rose blooms also continue along the elegant Viale delle Rose, and in the Garden of Medicinal Plants, visitors can explore 40 varieties of aromatic herbs.
In autumn, the spotlight turns to the vibrant Japanese maples, crepe myrtles, the tulip tree, majestic sweetgums, and golden-leaved Ginkgo Biloba, as well as both white and black hornbeams. Equally striking are the towering dawn redwoods (Metasequoia), or water firs, which turn deep red-orange and line the edges of the ponds. This creates a stunning palette of fall foliage, especially captivating in October and November, evoking the enchanting landscapes of a Japanese autumn.
