What you can expect

Begin your journey at the cave city of Uplistsikhe, a “God's Fortress,” carved into the rock over 3,000 years ago. Ascend to the Queen Tamar Hall, where light streams through openings in the ceiling, creating a mystical atmosphere. Discover an ancient pharmacy, where niches for medicinal herbs remain, and see a theater where performances were held even before Christ.

Descend to the Kura River through a secret tunnel used by the city's residents during sieges. It's like stepping onto the set of a fantasy film.

Next, head to the town of Gori, just 15 minutes from the caves. See the modest, box-like house where Stalin was born, and his famous armored train car – a veritable “fortress on rails.” The museum building impresses with its architecture in the style of socialist classicism. The contrast between the luxury of a museum and the simplicity of a family home makes one reflect on the scale of personality and history.

Stop in Uplistsikhe to sample the local cuisine. This region is renowned for its excellent Shida Kartli dishes and homemade wine.

Continue to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, and stroll through the cobbled streets. Visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where the country's most sacred relic, the Tunic of the Lord, is kept. Unravel the mysteries of the cathedral's frescoes and discover the master's hand on the façade.

Visit the Samtavro Monastery, a peaceful place where St. Nino lived. Here you can venerate the relics of St. Gabriel, one of the most revered elders of our time. Try a local specialty: wine ice cream. It's the perfect dessert for a stroll through the old quarters.

End the day at the Jvari Temple, a 4th-6th-century temple, which became Georgia's first UNESCO site. Take in the legendary view of the confluence of the Aragvi and Kura rivers. See the meeting of two differently colored rivers and capture the best panoramic photos of this journey.
