What you can expect

The adventure begins with pickup from your hotel in Puerto Maldonado and heads to the Madre de Dios river where your boat for the day awaits. Board the boat and set sail along the vibrant river towards the National Reserve of Tambopata, a vast landscape rainforests that is rich in colorful wildlife.

Arrive at the reserve and enjoy a 55-minute walk through the luscious landscape until you reach Sandoval Lake. Throughout the walk, admire views of the colossal jungle trees that surround you and watch out for native wildlife including monkeys and parrots. At the lake, hop into a canoe head out onto the calm waters, which beautifully reflect the trees that line the shore. Keep a look out for the abundance of animals and birds that call Sandoval their home, and in particular the lake's giant otters.

Enjoy a quick stop for lunch and some rest time, then hop back in your canoe as you go in search of black caimans and yet more fascinating wildlife, then slowly begin the journey back through the jungle and towards the riverboat waiting to return you to Puerto Maldonado.
