What you can expect

Launch your kayak from world-famous Kailua Beach for a 15-minute paddle to Popoia Island to explore the bird sanctuary, learn about the area's volcanic geology, and enjoy lunch with a great view. Then paddle a short distance to Lanikai Beach and snorkel in a coral garden with fish and sea turtles.

Set off from the famous Kailua Beach and cruise through the calm, reef-protected waters of Kailua Bay. A trained naturalist guides you on a 15-minute paddle through the beautiful blue waters to a nearby offshore islet called Popoia. Along the way, you may see Kailua Bay's most important resident, the Hawaiian green sea turtle.

After landing your kayak on Popoia, walk around the island with your guide and then enjoy swimming and snorkeling on the surrounding reef. Your guide is also a master paddler and instructor, teaching the fun and safe way to paddle in your sit-on-top kayak. If you choose, your guide even teaches you how to catch a few waves on your kayak.

After leaving Popoia, go for a short trek to world-famous Lanikai Beach and enjoy more snorkeling with the marine life or relax on the soft white sand and soak up the sun. Your guide, well-versed in Hawaiian history, marine life, and geological formations, tells interesting stories with thought-provoking information about Hawaii.
