Spend a day touring the exquisite mountain town of Petropolis—known as the Imperial City since the time of Emperor Pedro II—to visit its regal buildings and charming streets.
After a convenient hotel pickup, ride 39 miles (68 km) to serene Petropolis, the mountain retreat of Brazil’s only 2 emperors. Breathe in the fresh air of the forest-blanketed Serra dos Orgaos as you pass by bucolic farms settled by German farmers from the Rhineland.
As soon as you arrive, get a nice perspective outside of Quintandinha Palace. Then, the tour starts with a visit to the Imperial Museum, which has been the summer residence of Emperor D. Pedro II and keeps furniture and objects such as the crown of gold, pearls, and diamonds used by D. Pedro I and D. Pedro II. You will have free time for lunch (optional not included). Feel free to ask your guide for recommendations.
The tour will continue on to the Gothic Cathedral where Princess Isabel was buried along with the tombstones of D. Pedro II and his wife. From there, walk over to a quiet park and feast your eyes on the Crystal Palace, a ballroom of glass and steel with chandeliers, all built and imported from France, as a gift to Princess Isabel from her husband. Hear about the expositions and royal parties once held here.
Then you will visit the Santos Dumont Museum House (tickets not included), better known as The Enchanted. A picturesque residence embedded in a steep town in the city, built in 1918. The Museum preserves and disseminates a memory of the father of Brazilian aviation, the engineering genius who revolutionized the world.
If you want to, in your free time, you can choose to visit Teresa Street or the Bohemia Beer Factory.
Teresa Street is an open-air shopping with a great variety of goods and clothes at a very good price. Take your time and buy souvenirs for the whole family. Or if you are more into local beers, you should visit the Bohemia Beer Factory (tickets not included), the first of its kind in Brazil. The tour is an interactive journey through the history, art, and science of brewing. Find out all about beer from ancient times to the present day. Taste Bohemia direct from the source and live the whole experience in a modern and interactive environment. The Brewery Bohemia also has an emporium, a bar, and a restaurant for you to enjoy all of their special beers with tasty dishes and snacks.
After, return to the bus that will take the tourists back to their hotels.
