DAY 1: Amedzofe – Ote Falls Canopy Walk – Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary
Depart Accra early in the morning and journey into the lush highlands of the Volta Region.
Nestled at an elevation of 677 meters above sea level, Amedzofe is the highest inhabited settlement in Ghana. Surrounded by rolling hills and rich vegetation, the town offers a refreshing mountain atmosphere and a fascinating history. Once home to German settlers for over 40 years, Amedzofe still bears traces of its colonial past.
Take a short hike to Mount Gemi, the fifth-highest mountain in Ghana. At the summit stands the historic cross and communication mast, offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and neighboring communities.
Continue your adventure to the Ote Falls Canopy Walk, where you will experience a thrilling walk suspended above the forest canopy. The canopy provides breathtaking views of the waterfall.
Later, journey to the sacred grove of Tafi Atome, home to the famous Mona Monkeys. Discover over 200 years of peaceful coexistence between the local community and these playful primates, which were traditionally regarded as sacred messengers of the Gods.
Learn about the community's conservation efforts that have helped preserve both the monkey population and the surrounding forest ecosystem, which is rich in birds, butterflies, and indigenous plant species.
After the tour, check into your accommodation and enjoy a relaxing evening in the Volta Region.
DAY 2: Mount Afadjato – Wli Waterfalls – Return to Accra
After breakfast, set out for an exciting day of hiking and waterfall exploration.
Fuel your adventurous spirit as you tackle the trails of Mount Afadjato, the highest mountain in Ghana. Rising to 885 meters above sea level, the mountain forms part of the Agumatsa Range along the Ghana–Togo border
The hike takes you through lush vegetation and rugged terrain before rewarding you with breathtaking views from the summit. Standing atop Ghana's highest peak, you can enjoy panoramic vistas stretching across both Ghana and neighboring Togo.
Following your descent, continue to the nearby village of Wli and enter the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary. Walk through the forest on a scenic trail that crosses several streams and passes through rich vegetation inhabited by fruit bats, butterflies, birds.
Arrive at the magnificent Wli Waterfalls, the highest waterfall in Ghana and West Africa. Enjoy the refreshing mist from the cascading waters and take a dip in the cool natural pool beneath the falls.
After some leisure time at the waterfalls, begin your return journey to Accra, bringing your memorable 2-day Volta Region adventure to a close.
