Why are they the 3 jewels of Majorera culture?
Las Salinas del Carmen is a protected site that is still alive today: visiting the Salinas del Carmen Museum is taking a trip to the past, to tradition, to the authentic Fuerteventura. The purity of the waters and the conservation of traditional techniques are key to obtaining the best sea salt in the Canary Islands.
The characteristics of the island have given rise to a peculiar goat cheese, the famous and award-winning Majorero cheese: the best goat cheese in the world. Do you want to know all its secrets? We will tell you about them at the Majorero Cheese Museum.
And to culminate the experience, in the center of the mills you will be able to learn about the operation of these giants that were used to grind grain, especially the gofio. Have you tried it? We invite you to taste the kneaded gofio, the quintessential Canarian recipe.
The three centers are located in the central part of the island, easily accessible by car, motorbike or even by bike. They are the most visited centers on the island as they make up an essential part of the Majorera culture.
You can visit the centers at your own pace and whenever you want, as you do not have to visit all 3 centers on the same day. The Interpretation Center is the smallest one, and a visit takes about 40 minutes. The Salinas del Carmen Museum takes about 1 hour if you want to visit both the interior and exterior. The Museo del Queso has various parts, including the windmill, museum, and cactus garden, which together take about 1.5 hours, depending on each person’s interests.
