Owaku-dani Valley

Owakudani is located in Hakone City, southeast of Mount Fuji. It is a famous tourist attraction in Fuji-Hakone. Owakudani, a Japanese tourist attraction, is the remains of a crater formed by a volcanic eruption in the northern belly of the sacred mountain at the end of the Hakone volcanic activity about 400,000 years ago. It is also called "the Great Hell". Most of the spring water in Owakudani is poisonous. It was originally called Oojigoku, which was formed by the eruption of Mount Hakone 3,000 years ago. There are many attractions such as the 800-year-old cedar tree-lined approach to the shrine and the prefectural-level special natural monument, the Himesara Pure Forest. The treasure hall exhibits a statue of Manmaki Shonin and the red wood-handled short sword used by the Soga brothers.
