Explore the inner harbour of Duisburg! While you pass many impressive buildings with modern architecture such as the “Five Boats”, the marina, museums and restaurants you will learn about the plan of the British star architect Sir Norman Foster that changed this part of the city from the mid-1990s.

The inner harbor used to be called the 'bread basket of the Ruhr area' because of the massive handling of grain. With the demise of the grain mills at the end of the 1960s, the demise of what was then Duisburg's inner harbor was inevitable. That’s why this part of the city had to change!

See for yourself what structural change looks like in practice! Where freighters used to be loaded and unloaded, yachts now lie at anchor, creating a Mediterranean atmosphere. Restaurants right on the water, attractive events for young and old. Glittering office complexes alongside nostalgic warehouse rows. The inner harbour has become a booming district of Duisburg.

Before or after the tour the museum of modern art Küppersmühle is really worth a visit. The Cultural and urban history museum is another interesting museum. Moreover many restaurants invite you to take a seat and to simply enjoy the relaxing, maritime atmosphere.
