What you can expect

  • We'll start our excursion on the way to the village of Pargua, south of Puerto Varas, where we'll board a ferry to sail across the Chacao Channel, which separates the mainland from Chiloé Island. During the crossing, we'll be able to spot sea lions, pelicans, and seabirds typical of this region.
We will dock in the village of Chacao, where we can see typical buildings made of Alerce wood, as well as the Church of San Antonio de Chacao. We will then continue our tour along the inland sea route, the western route of the island, which will take us to the village of Quemchi, which the writer Francisco Coloane dubbed the municipality of 1,000 landscapes and where we can visit its beautiful waterfront.

We will then head to a wonderful place: Aucar, the Island of the Wandering Souls, which we can access via a 430-meter-long wooden bridge. We will then head to Dalcahue (a town located opposite Quinchao Island), which has a food and craft market on its waterfront with a spectacular view.

We'll visit the market and walk to the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, a typical Chiloé building and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will then continue our journey to the city of Castro, the capital of Chiloé Island. We will stop to take photos of the palafitos (houses built on stilts over the water), and we will visit the Church of San Francisco opposite the city square and its craft market.
