Kurokawa Onsen

Kurokawa Onsen is a hot spring town with dreamy scenery and a lot of delicious food (about an hour and a half, free time, hot spring bathing fees are at your own expense). Kumamoto has many natural hot springs, but none are as famous as the Kurokawa Onsen. There are about 30 hot spring inns in this mountain town. The retro inns with a black-based color are neatly arranged and the scenery is quite impressive. The picturesque river flowing through the town, thick vegetation, and steam from the hot springs create a dreamlike view for tourists. The best thing about the hot spring town is the open-air baths that take advantage of the beautiful landscape. In the "100 Selected Hot Springs in Japan" published by the Tourism Economy Newspaper in 2008, Kurokawa Onsen was ranked first in the "Atmosphere" category. In the "Michelin Guide Japan" in 2009, it was rated as a two-star hot spring area.
