What you can expect

  • Join me on a nature experience through the Norwegian forest, in summer or winter, and discover a wilder, quieter side of Tromsø.

I will take you through a part of Tromsø that most visitors never get to see, where hidden treasures and relics of the past are waiting along the way.

From the very beginning, we leave civilisation and its noise behind and head straight into the forest. Breathe in the fresh Arctic air as we follow a powerful river rushing through the landscape in summer — and transformed into a spectacular frozen world in winter.

Along the way, we will stop at a historic cabin before continuing towards a stunning viewpoint overlooking the fjord. In my opinion, it easily competes with the famous Fjellheisen view — but without the crowds and tourist noise. Just the mountains, the fjord and the Arctic landscape around you.

Here, the mountains feel like sleeping trolls. They reveal a passage leading much deeper into the wilderness, but our adventure will eventually turn back towards a traditional green-roof shelter.

There, we will make a bonfire and enjoy a Norwegian-style outdoor lunch together, with hot chocolate and marshmallows.

A well-deserved meal after a real Arctic forest adventure.

    Difficulty: Medium to Challenging

This is a proper nature hike, not an easy sightseeing walk. There are steep sections, river crossings and narrow paths. You should be reasonably fit and comfortable walking on uneven terrain.

The effort is worth it — this is a chance to experience a quieter and more authentic side of Tromsø, away from the usual tourist routes.

Winter season: From November onwards, spikes and headlamps will be provided when conditions require them.
