Overview

Embark on a fascinating 3-day guided cultural experience to the Otjikandero Orphanage Himba Village, where you will immerse yourself in the unique traditions of the Himba people. This tour offers an opportunity to engage with one of Namibia's last semi-nomadic tribes, learn about their way of life, and contribute to the orphanage that supports Himba children.

Set against the picturesque landscapes of northwestern Namibia, this journey takes you beyond the typical tourist experience, providing meaningful interactions, cultural exchanges, and hands-on activities that showcase the rich heritage, traditions, and daily life of the Himba people. Throughout the trip, you will enjoy guided tours, cultural performances, and traditional meals, as well as opportunities to participate in daily village activities such as herding, milking cows, and learning about Himba body adornment with red ochre. Nights are spent under star-lit skies, either at a local lodge or within the village.

Since wood is not resistant to the wear and tear of time, wood sculptures survive less well than other forms of art and are therefore an important hidden element in the art history of many cultures. The wood-and-thatch market is situated next to the main road at the town’s entrance and exit. Choose from a wide variety of hand-carved wooden artifacts such as animals, bowls or jewelry boxes.
