The trip starts off with a bang at the famous Playa de los Muertos, a paradise whose name comes from the ancient currents that used to wash the remains of shipwrecks ashore. From there, we'll look up at the Mesa Roldán Lighthouse, perched atop an impressive volcanic dome. It's one of the tallest lighthouses in Spain and a landmark that has served as a backdrop for series such as Game of Thrones.
Continuing south, we'll explore Cala Arena, where fossilized lava formations create “rock cathedrals” that reveal Almería's volcanic past. Before entering the village, we'll stop in front of the Ore Loading Facility, a gem of industrial archaeology that tells the story of the area's mining history, and then cross the bay of Agua Amarga with its iconic white houses.
After leaving the town center behind, the landscape becomes even wilder. We'll pass by Cala del Sol, a cove that is almost impossible to access by land, to reach the crown jewel: Cala de Enmedio. Here, the purest white fossil sand dunes contrast with the green of the Posidonia oceanica, the plant that oxygenates our waters and keeps them so crystal clear.
We'll wrap up our excursion in the expansive Cala del Plomo, a setting of absolute peace and turquoise waters that puts the finishing touch on our journey before heading back to the cruise port.
Amid stories of pirates, fascinating geology, and secrets of film shoots, we'll make strategic stops for you to jump into the water and experience the park from the inside.
