This hotel is very near Yorkminster with garden access to get up to the city walls. The building has parts that date to the 11th century. Each room is named not numbered. The staff were excellent. I am vegan, and for the breakfast, they were very willing to adapt to my dietary preferences, and it was delicious. The rooms are a nice size and we'll appointed. In addition, they invite you to relax in the Long Hall, which is a 14th century addition to the building where King James I stopped and while their knighted 6 men.
I cannot praise the hotel enough. We were made really welcome and enjoyed staying in such an old building.
We had a fantastic stay at Grays Court. The location is perfect, right in the heart of York, making it easy to explore the city while enjoying the peace and charm of this beautiful historic hotel.
The highlight of our stay was the amazing staff. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they made us feel at home from the moment we arrived.
A special mention has to go to Nala, the lovely resident dog, who was so friendly and such a joy to see during our stay. She really adds to the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the hotel.

Everything just felt right. From the atmospheric courtyard, the cozy reception area and the long gallery for drinks through to the room and bathroom - it felt very welcoming and traditional. All the staff were amazingly helpful and really made us want to come back another time.

The reception was first class. The room very clean with a wonderfully comfortable bed. The breakfast was also very good but some might say lacked much choice ie fresh fruit etc. however all the staff we encountered were friendly and very helpful. The position of the hotel in York could not have been better Our visit took place on 29th March 2026.
Exceptional hotel, beautiful rooms, library, bar and gardens. Staff were all wonderful and very attentive. Breakfast was nice and filling, excellent selection of wines.
Grays Court was wonderful! The building is charming and comfortable, the breakfast is delightful, the staff is welcoming and helpful. Great location to walk from to see York. Overall, an exceptional experience.
We had a great stay! Everything perfect, would definitely recommend
Small hotel so lovely and quiet, next door to the Minster and Theatre within 5 min walk!
Couldn’t fault anything about this lovely hotel, great staff, fabulous location, breakfast was really good, the little going home gift was a thoughtful touch. Perfect stay.
We had a lovely stay! Susanna made sure that we were well taken care of. All the staff has such pride in the grounds and history. The location is close to everything. Very nice breakfasts and even a bag with water and a snack for our travels when we checked out!
