The Stannard Inn is an absolute jewel box on the Connecticut shoreline! It is a beautifully decorated coastal chic Captain’s home with thoughtfully appointed guests rooms and public areas. The Innkeepers were so deliberate with the amenities they offered and we could not have been more comfortable or felt more welcome. Will definitely be back again

The home itself is older, historic, and absolutely beautiful from the outside. When we arrived, we rang the doorbell and eventually a voice came over the speaker telling us check-in instructions had been emailed. We never received that email until the following day, and with no one there to greet us, even finding our room was difficult. I’ve stayed at many bed and breakfasts, and this was just a very different experience. The best word I can use to describe the inside is stark. I will absolutely give credit where it is due: our room was immaculate, and so was the entire property. But it did not feel warm or homey. Breakfast was the biggest disappointment. It was make-your-own avocado toast with Costco avocado mash, premade hard-boiled eggs, canned juice, granola bars, bagels, toast and very healthy cereals, although we couldn’t find any milk. The gluten-free items were stored with the regular breads, which makes little sense for someone with celiac disease. The only thing that appeared homemade was the fruit salad. I understand the listing says continental breakfast, but I’ve stayed at many B&Bs where that still included homemade muffins, baked goods, eggs or a warm option. This was more expensive than the B&B we stayed at the night before, where everything was homemade and everyone sat together. This place was spotless and beautiful outside, but the overall B&B experience was disappointing.
