I love staying here. We've had mostly great experiences. Rooms are always clean. Water is hot. Staff is mostly good to work with - front desk. They aren't automated so changes to room assignments are difficult for them. I prefer the 3rd floor for internet and it seems to be an updated area. 5th floor there is an awful, very loud buzz. I'm sure it is from the building air conditioner. We couldn't be move until the next day. You kind of have to think of it as a type of white noise. Internet worked decent on the 5th floor.

Average Hotel, but great location

Room was clean but worn. Okay for overnight stay which is what I utilized it for. The lobby was clean, but the carpets in the room floors should be replaced and were not vacuumed. Outside bar was good. I would stay there again because I liked the location in the heart of the city; will look for other accommodations also.

Pros: Clean, with nice old-style furniture in good condition. Excellent location if you are okay with not staying near the beach. Tons of restaurants (check reviews before going), live music, handicraft stores, the famous Güero Güera ice cream shops, La Parroquia restaurants, local shoe stores, and more. Gentle and helpful staff, although some do not speak English. Close to the Malecón, tourist two-story open bus rides, the Marines Museum, and many historical buildings. Cons: Outdoor live music can be annoying late at night. If you need a safe, make sure you request a room with a working one, and double-check that it is securely attached to the wall when you arrive. Far from the nicest beaches.

The staff was friendly and helpful, especially at the end of our 3-night stay by arranging our early morning taxi to the airport. The room was clean and large with a table and two chairs, and a king-sized bed. The hotel is right on the main square (el zocalo) so we could go out and hear live music and see dances. Unfortunately, as with many old buildings, there was an awful smell of the sewer emanating from the bathroom. It seemed to be strongest in the morning. But, short of knocking the beautiful hotel down and rebuilding, there is probably very little that be done to improve the smell.

I don’t speak Spanish. The staff was very patient and helpful. If needed, they found someone who spoke Spanish to help me. The location is excellent. Once the sun went down (it was August) families and friends came out to enjoy games and performances in the square across from the hotel. There is a pool that stays shaded most of the day! There are many food options around and a farmacia nearby.
