Beautiful home in a beautiful neighbourhood. Joanne was very welcoming, and made us feel like we were home. The breakfasts were different than what we’re use to, but very very good. We highly recommend.

We generally stay in the UBC apartments (Gage) when in Vancouver, but chose a B and B this trip due to high prices during the World Cup. Host was very friendly and welcoming, and Dunbar is in a great location if you are planning activities in Kitsilano/waterfront/UBC areas. Most other areas are easily reachable via nearby public transport. Breakfasts were delicious--something different each morning. Guests also have access to a full kitchen. A few downsides-- rooms may be difficult for mobility-challenged travelers due to tight spacing. Our room (Kitsilano) was advertised with "private bathroom", which I assumed was en suite, but it was actually down the hall. One traveler is elderly, and it was a bit inconvenient for her. The Kitsilano Room also seemed stuffy with no natural light. Guessing other rooms would be better, as they would have windows to the outdoors. Would not recommend if you don't like dogs--resident dog is large, loud, and very friendly!

BEWARE - pictures are OLD; UBC Room is not like the pictures on website! Bed is only several inches off the floor - so if you have mobility issues advise to avoid. Website pic shows 2 night stands attached when there is only one. Entire room is a very dark burnt red; makes it hard to see especially at night with no overhead light. Bathroom (en-suite) is very small - unable to have 2 people in room at same time; there is a shower curtain inside of the shower door (larger size person would not be able to fit inside the stall). Mould along the edge of the shower too. Light switch is falling out of the wall by the sink; turn on/off carefully to avoid electrocution. Cobwebs throughout the "en-suite" & room. "Hot breakfast" is offered at 9am sharp; if this time is not suitable then you can have an everything bagel with cream cheese prepared yourself (continental breakfast). Fruit flies love the kitchen; they keep you company while you're eating. Bring indoor footwear - outdoor shoes must be removed at the door; socks will come out black after walking on the floors. Perks - able to bring in your own groceries & use the kitchenette.

Comfy Stay in Quiet Neighborhood

Joanne is very friendly and our room was very comfy with all that we needed. Breakfast was yummy & we appreciated that we could arrive early with no extra charge. The house is beautifully decorated and the neighborhood is quiet.

Joanne couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. My room was spacious with a generous bathroom en suite - great shower with ample hot water … and a handy grab rail for those of us prone to falling over when standing on one leg! Lovely area and very peaceful. Lots of helpful information provided in the room, with maps and info on bus routes to get around. I wouldn’t hesitate to return, or to recommend this b&b.

Comfortable stay in Vancouver

My wife and I were made very welcome by Joanne. Nothing was too much trouble. Always happy to give advice to where to go and how to get about. Room was very comfortable and spacious. Need to be aware to options for eating out in the area are a bit limited so grab something while you are out and about. There is a kitchen and sitting room available for guests but not there is no oven in the kitchen. We bought a pizza to cook and Joanne was so kind as to cook it in our kitchen for us. Would definitely stay again if in the city.

Spent the last weekend on Joanne's B&B my wife and, we couldn't be happier. The place is beautiful, clean and cozy and the breakfast? Absolute delicious!. Located just 15 minutes from downtown, it is the prefect spot to relax while staying close the citty buzz. We loved every moment, and if you’re looking for a warm, welcoming place to stay in Vancouver, Joanne’s B&B is a fantastic choice!

A fantastic stay! There is space, style, warmth and welcome at House on Dunbar. Joanne is a fantastic host, and her breakfasts can't be topped. The neighbourhood is elegant and wealthy and I was a bit intimidated but we were made totally welcome. Will return again and heartily recommend this lovely bed and breakfast.

DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!!!

Power was out when we arrived so no internet! Could not contact owners as they are not on site! We opened door and it smelled horribly musty! It was midnight so we stayed. Next morning power back on and the place was filthy—really hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived! Per on bathroom floor, dirt everywhere! We could not get ahold of owner, nor could hotels.com (we booked thru them). Got ahold of them finally and they told me they would work on a refund. So far—I got nothing! I don’t mind paying for 1night as we stayed (we were supposed to stay for 3 night)! Still waiting to hear from them or owner!
