I honestly struggle a little to understand the extremely high rating this B&B has. Don’t get me wrong, the rooms are very private and spacious, and I personally love older properties with character. However, in this case it felt like some areas were not just old, but simply in need of better maintenance. For example, the grout and finishing in the bathroom were quite worn. To me, that’s less about the age of the building and more about general upkeep.
The ladies at the property were absolutely lovely, and the breakfast was delicious. The only downside was that we didn’t really get to choose our breakfast time. As the other couple staying there had already chosen 9am, we were given 8am. We had hoped for a relaxed morning and a bit of a sleep-in, so that was a little disappointing. That said, the breakfast itself was very good.
We also did the wine tasting. Perhaps we just caught the gentleman on an off day, especially as so many other reviews speak very highly of the experience. Unfortunately, for us it felt a little impersonal. The same story seemed to be repeated at each table, and when we tried to ask questions, the answers were quite short. We had hoped for a bit more interaction and passion, particularly given how positively the wine tasting is described in other reviews.
Overall, there were definitely things we enjoyed, especially the space, privacy, breakfast and the lovely ladies looking after the property. However, based on our experience, we personally didn’t feel it
