Convenient location for sea front and very nice balcony to sit and relax, although quite small. Rooms and pub clean and the meals were standard pub fare with excellent specials. Parking can be an issue when there's something happening on the beach or in the sea, we were there during the rowing regatta and the front was very busy. Would stop again
My friend and I stayed at The Steamer Inn, Shanklin for 3 nights earlier this week. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. The service was excellent as was the food; the "included" english breakfast was great, served freshly cooked and well-presented.
The Steamer Inn was well located for the buses (50 yards across the road) which we made good use of throughout our stay.
It was a shame the lift from the esplanade to the top of the cliff was out of action but instead we made good use of our Shanklin Chine ticket (valid from first use throughout our stay) as a more pleasant walk upto Shanklin Old Village and beyond rather that walk the longer way round.
Lovely comfortable room with en suite and stunning view of the beach across the road from our balcony. Impressed with the high standard of cleanliness and the friendly staff. The included Breakfast was good and we additionally ate at the bar for the 3 nights we stayed as there was an excellent and reasonably priced menu. Overall, very impressed and will come again.
Thank you Steamer Inn. We had a sea view balcony room. Wonderful location and great staff. It is not The Ritz nor does it pretend to be. But it does have a comfortable bed and a balcony overlooking the sea. Local information (guides, maps etc) are also available. We have stayed there before and we will return. It's nice to be shown to your room (we were given an early check in) and the shower was very good.
The breakfast was also very good. If we were to nit pick, some coat hooks in the room (perhaps on the back of the door) would be useful and it would be nice to have some lighter options at breakfast (yogurts, fruits etc) would be good. Looking further into the season, it would be nice to have somewhere to hang wet swimwear after the beach.
Our stay was fantastic the room was lovely and clean and the staff were amazing so helpful being on the seafront was a bonus we ate every night there the food was fantastic and well worth the money we have just come back from a lovely long weekend and already planning to go back there next year
We had a lovely short break at The Steamer for the second time. The room was a good size with a great sea view.
Breakfast was served in the bar area and was plentiful and very tasty.
We ate in the bar every night as the food was delicious and we didn't see any reason to venture further for food.
I am on my own having lost my husband a few months ago and travelling on my own is a challenge at the moment, everyone made me welcome and feel safe ,staff very attentive and happy I felt very special
Off season visit but the Steamer was really cosy. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was immaculately clean and the view over the bay fabulous. A real gem and will definitely be back
Perfect location looking across the Esplanade to the sea front. Excellent food served all day in a relaxed atmosphere by attentive staff. This great venue attracted a lot on non-resident customers and there was a real buzz as guests enjoyed their relaxed meal eating great food and enjoying a wide variety from the bar.. As residents we were recognised and welcomed and felt very looked after. This was a great base to explore the Island from,
I was made to feel very comfortable as a lady solo traveller, everyone was very friendly especially the lady that served the breakfast. The food was amazing and being seated in a nice little table in the corner was perfect for me and I didn't feel isolated.... thank you so much. The view was amazing from the balcony and so nice to hear the waves whilst in bed. Will definitely be back, great stay!!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Fantastic view from our room and the terraces, easy to walk to Shanklin or Sandown or use the buses. Its about time the woodchip was removed and the carpet replaced in the bedroom, but it was otherwise great as was the bathroom. Balcony had great sea view.
Food in restaurant was consistently good.
A perfect little place by the sea! The room was clean and cute and the beds very comfortable. Loved to wake up in the morning and sit on the balcony, also slept the windows open to hear the sea.
The restaurant downstairs closes at 10pm but there was no disturbance whatsoever even on the weekend, you could hardly even hear it to the room.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming, they also got us a table in the restaurant even when there was a line outside. The restaurant also had very good vegan options, so we didn't even need to go find a place to eat in the evenings.
Loved having breakfast before the restaurant opened, watching the sea in the homely atmosphere.
Will definitely book again!
