Excellent location near Berri-UQAM station to get around town, and comfortable rooms and beds (we were in room 304). Exceptional staff and the cafe on the main floor makes fantastic London Fogs. Expect stairs, but you likely already know that. Really convenient to the gay bars and fairly convenient to the Latin Quarter.
The punk bar across the road has rather loud visitors up to 2 or 3 am and the ambulances add to the road noise if you like to have a window open. Bring ear plugs if you're sensitive to noise. Or go join the crowd and have one of their excellent ciders -- it's a cash only bar.
Due to construction in the area, if you want to go to the Latin Quarter at night, I would recommend either cutting through the Metro or going north through the quiet neighbourhood versus the shorter route to the south. Otherwise, the area felt generally safe to us as long as you're paying attention.

Very clean , and quiet room. Parking available across the street for $24. We did not utilize their breakfast which was quoted to be $15 p.p. Check in was done on line, & code sent to make keys. Staff were present though for assistance. Text was also sent to let us know room was ready @ 1330, which was a nice perk. Would book again!

A gorgeous property perfectly located in Old Montreal with easy access to the Metro system.
All the staff that I interacted with provided excellent service. On the morning of our departure, the concierge provided us with a booklet of restaurant and activity recommendations for Quebec City. He somehow knew that we were going there, which was amazing!
The highlight of our stay was dinner in the hotel restaurant! Food, service, and ambience were incredible!
Will definitely recommend both the restaurant and hotel to people travelling to Montreal.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Hotel Birks comes close to a five-star experience, with large, attractive rooms. I was surprised there was no coffee available in the lobby, a convenience I’ve enjoyed at many other luxury hotels, but the only real disappointment was the gym.
It was small and poorly equipped. The only elliptical appeared to be an inexpensive, unfamiliar brand, far below Precor quality, and made a loud scraping noise that rendered it effectively unusable. The multifunction weight machine was similarly low-end and broken so completely unusable. That left a set of weights, two floor mats, one stationary bicycle and two basic treadmills—hardly what I would expect from a hotel of this caliber.
I intended to raise this with the manager but didn’t get around to it. Even so, the equipment’s condition suggested that maintenance had been neglected. Other five-star hotels I’ve visited offer commercial-quality equipment from brands such as Life Fitness or Technogym. Birks should meet that standard.
Summary: A five-star hotel with a zero-star gym.
