Very nicely furnished room, well equipped with everything I needed and a few things I didn't. Air conditioning was a bonus in the current heat wave. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast and evening meals were good. Plus it is very convenient for Duxford IWM.

We had a lovely stay at The Chalk Hare (end of June 2026). The staff were so friendly and the food great. The rooms were really lovely as were the amenities. The place is being upgraded shortly after a recent change of ownership which will no doubt just give it that extra star as some of the communal areas (like stair/hall carpets) were looking a bit tired. So should be looking fabulous very soon !

A lovely hotel, restaurant and bar. Beautifully decorated and furnished with a great selection of artwork. Drinks before dinner in the spacious garden then the most delicious, beautifully presented food in the restaurant. Our room was spacious, well furnished and equipped - the air conditioning was very welcome! - with an equally spacious bathroom, lovely toiletries too. Delicious breakfast to end our stay - we have recommended The Chalk Hare to many friends, thoroughly enjoyed our stay last Friday. Thank you to everyone on the friendly, welcoming and helpful staff.

Really enjoyed our stay

Very friendly and helpful service all the way through our stay. Lovely outdoors area to eat or have a drink. Very comfortable nights sleep and a great breakfast the next morning. We would absolutely use the hotel again.

Fairly good, bit on the pricy side.

We enjoyed our stay, but felt it was a tad overpriced for what it was. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the room was clean and well presented.

Convenient. Actually good room standards although the last room I had was not up to usual standard...heating poor (mid Jan, expected better) Breakfast very good ! Bar prices are high for the area. Good parking. I prefer to stay here when in Royston.

Lovely hotel

Lovely hotel. We have stayed a few times. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice. My only complaint is that our room wasn’t serviced on the Saturday, and although I was able to get tea bags etc from the bar, our cups were obviously still dirty from the morning cuppa when we returned in the evening. This slightly took the edge off the stay, but on the whole, I’ve the place.

Bedrooms cold initially radiator in main room didn’t work but was electric heater that took a while to get going. Room lovely and big. Breakfast disappointing limited, no fruit options, porridge or granola options, some boxed cereals but very limited. Cooked breakfast and coffee lovely.

Dirty Room

Mixed review, the staff were wonderful and the food was delicious, however the room was unacceptable. It was dirty, there was hair in the shower from the previous guest, coffee cups were dirty with coffee rings inside, I had to clean the mug myself. It was really basic and unclean, not the boutique experience that I was sold on the website.

This is very much a brasserie/bar more so than a hotel. Our room was right above the bar with noise until late and the pillows were very thin. The radiator didn't work in our room and the big old-fashioned windows which would add character and charm just added to the chill. However the thick curtains did well to block out cold and light. Some nice touches (e.g. the robes, presentation of the room) and decent food, but falling short on a few more essential aspects.

I did let the staff know that our bath room had no shower gel, black long hairs on floor, only one bath towel, and the sanitary bin in bath room needed emptying!!!! Dirty cup, no coat hangers. But everything else was good x

It's alright

It was alright, I was a little disappointed that our bags were left in the open reception area, when they could maybe have been taken to the room, we had advised the hotel that we were at a wedding and that we wouldn't be able to check in until late. The bar was shut, which was also disappointing, but fine. The fire alarm went off at 6am and no one apologised for that which wasn't great. The rooms are nice but probably need refreshing. It was just okay, I think I was personally disappointed given the price.

Why do hotel designers think it is OK to have an ensuite bathroom with no door? A curtain is not an adequate replacement for a door. This was a big issue for us. Also the only seating in our room was 1 dining chair and 1 stool when there was room for something more comfortable. I don't want to have to sit on the bed, particularly at the price this hotel came in at. Everything else was very good.
