Vacations Close To First Baptist Church

The location was good. Easy walking distance to the boardwalk. We really liked the unique character of the old building. It smelled very musty but that’s to be expected. Having the unexpected parking fee was frustrating but I guess it evened out with the decent price of the hotel.

Muy buen servicio todo muy limpio

Todo muy bien y el personal muy atento

Fantastic experience all around!

We wanted to be able to rate this hotel with a better score. We fully understood that we were staying in a historic hotel right next to the Alamo. We understood that because of the age of the hotel we were going to have to expect that it was going to have old hotel issues. But the rooms are so out of date that they are gross. And the bathroom is incredibly frustrating to use. The toilet is very low and wedged between the wall and the sink. Almost unusable. The sink was OK. The shower has very old plumbing with a hot knob and a cold knob, that never seemed to work together at the same time. I would get the temperature pretty decent and then I would get a cold burst or a hot burst throughout the shower. The carpeting in the rooms was squishy and gross, and you can feel the telephone cord underneath the carpeting and end up, tripping over it. The ice machine on each floor was broken on the Saturday night that we were there. We had to go down to the bar in order to get a bucket of ice. And the signage for the ice machines was incorrect. The common spaces are very charming. The rooms are ridiculously overpriced for the poorly maintained quality.

Great stay. Only complaint I could have would be the valet parking being that there was only one person working. They are not working 24 seven so when I got back from dinner about 9 PM I had to park my own vehicle at the hotel behind the Maverick. Just note this is a very busy area and Friday and Saturday nights. the streets are pretty ridiculous earlier that afternoon, I did have a small issue. There was a guy, I’m assuming he was homeless downstairs, beating mongrels and I could hear it from my room on the ninth floor.
