Excellent location right in the city centre; spacious rooms with ample storage space; friendly staff - especially the chap in the mornings :) clean, atmospheric and with a great roof top terrace. Definitely a place to return to!

nice, cheap and clean

The location is really good, very central. Huge hostel, it has so many floors and different spaces. Lovely rooftop. You have to climb lots of flights of stairs to reach the kitchen but it has good facilities. NO LAUNDRY SERVICE despite saying it has, but the launderette is around the corner and very cheap. The hostel is really clean and we appreciated that.

Cheap stay but comfort not so high

The stay was cheap and the room and areas where large and clean. However comfort overall was low. Beds were hard as a brick and there are a lot of noise from traffic during the day and in the mornings, which not even ear plugs can block out (which might be a general thing in Oaxaca centro), so just be aware.

I spent 9 nights, having booked a single room with a shared bathroom. I had been to Oaxaca many times, but never in November. At Andaina, I had a room on the 2nd floor aka Nivel 1. The room was EXTREMELY cold, and not getting any sun. Also, it was too close to the front desk and its constant noises. Getting a room on Nivel 2 or 3 would have been a lot more enjoyable for a long stay. The roof top provides a great view of the city and the mountains. The shared kitchen is a great addition to the hostel which provides, free of charge, drinkable water and delicious coffee. The hostel was extremely clean thanks to a hard working crew. I complained to a manager about one of the employees,l who works the front desk. A COMPLETE lack of manners and education was displayed by that young man. I asked the manager to coach him, hoping for a change. Unfortunately, no signs of better customer service and manners were shown during the rest of my stay. That young man shouldn't be working behind a desk dealing with an international clientele. I will give only 3 stars because of him. Otherwise, my rating would have been higher.

If you like experiencing prison

I lasted one night of my 6 night booking. This place is SPARTAN. No ceiling or other fan, no air of any kind in the entire building. No chair, bedside table or bedside lamp, just a bare bulb on the ceiling. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. I truly felt like I I was sleeping in a prison cell. The entire property smelled of sewer gas. WiFi was unusable it was so slow. I’m not a stranger to hostels and roughing it a bit but this was comically bad. Do not stay here.

This Hostal is very quiet! It’s clean and good for your money. Staff are very helpful. There are 24 hours front desk personnel so you feel safe! It will be great if the Hostal allow a bit drinking on the site. I think this will bring more customers to the Hostal!

Staff are very friendly and helpful! The hostel is very quiet compared to the other hostels, clean and good for the money spent! I’d you want to party with friends, this is not a hotel for you as party and alcoholic drinks are not allowed!

This hostel is very centrally located, yet it was quiet enough for me to sleep well at night. It's very clean and the bed is comfortable. I love that they provide drinking water!! The only thing I would change is to make sure residents understand which bathrooms have hot water and which ones don't (some have solar heated water that can be quite chilly). Oh, and put thicker curtains on the window to keep out the light from the hallway.

La habitación super espaciosa, incluía closet, espejo de cuerpo completo, zapatera, una mesita plegable y una mesa pequeña frente al espejo. El baño es compartido pero muy amplio también y de higiene ningún tema. El personal fue muy amable y me dieron muy buena información siempre que les pregunté. Ofrecen agua y café complementarios. Los únicos contras que vi fue que la regadera y el inodoro están en el mismo espacio, y siendo un solo baño por piso, por las mañanas que mucha gente se baña te podías quedar sin acceso a un baño. La otra cuestión es que las habitaciones que dan a la calle reciben muchísimo ruido. Yo no tuve mucho problema para dormir pero alguien de sueño ligero creo que no podría pasar bien la noche, a veces pasan camiones grandes y hacen mucho escándalo. La habitación se llega a calentar bastante porque le da el sol y no hay ventilador, pero por el precio me parece razonable, en la noche no se sentía tan caluroso a pesar de todo. Tienen una terraza muy bonita y un pequeño gimnasio, en general está bien equipado el edificio. La ubicación es excelente, queda a un par de cuadras del zócalo, de dos mercados grandes (Benito Juárez y 20 de noviembre) y del mercado de artesanías. También está a unos veinte minutos de Santo Domingo y el museo de la cultura de Oaxaca. Me volvería a hospedar aquí.
