The hotel has its charm, but it’s in a not so great area of downtown (on the way back from downtown you pass some streets that feel a bit sketchy). The rooms were nice but our bathroom was full of black caterpillars —some people don’t care but my gf didn’t have a great time.

🌿✨ A beautiful place to disconnect and reconnect with nature! ✨🌿 I had such a wonderful experience at this hotel. The peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by nature, made it the perfect place to relax and escape from the everyday routine. The hot springs were definitely one of my favorite parts so relaxing and refreshing! The staff were incredible so friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They truly made the experience even more special and made us feel right at home. The combination of nature, cozy spaces, warm lighting, and peaceful surroundings creates such a magical atmosphere, especially at night. 🌙✨ If you’re looking for a place to relax, enjoy nature, and unwind in beautiful hot springs, I definitely recommend staying here. I would love to come back again!

An old house converted to a Japanese style osen. Generally good service. The place requires a lot of attention. The bath has mold problems. The floors need reconditioning. They are very dirty. The exercise room, as well as the mats, are dirty. Rain produced puddles in the walkable areas of the interior which was not addressed in a timely manner.

LOVE this hotel so much. The pools were freezing during our stay however, the onsen below was enjoyable! I have never been more relaxed at a hotel more than I was staying here. It’s so peaceful and not to mention they have two resident cats that are sweet as can be. Like what!? Just book your stay already!

Our stay at Japoneza was nothing short of lovely. The whole energy was peaceful and very much a get-away type of stay. The air coniditioning was AMAZING, never got hot and that was essential when the heat/humidty was causing an allergic reaction for my husband. Also, the cold kept the critters away which is always comforting. The pool water was very nice however a little murky and not as clear/clean. The sauna/heated spa area was under maintence so we didnt get to use it. The staff was amazing, sweet and attentive and accomdated us one morning where we had to leave early- I am 7 months pregnant and cant leave anywhere without food in my belly and the staff hustled to make it earlier enough to feed us before we had to head out. I thought that was very special of them. Highly recommend !

The Japoneza Retreat was an exceptional place to stay—quiet, peaceful, and incredibly relaxing. While the exterior might initially be a bit surprising, once you step inside, it truly feels like a hidden oasis. We particularly enjoyed the massages and the jacuzzi, which were definitely highlights of our stay. The staff was outstanding, always attentive and eager to accommodate our needs, from arranging taxis and drinks to providing towels and booking tours. The retreat is a short 10–20 minute walk from the town, where you'll find a variety of restaurants and cafes. Overall, a fantastic experience!

We stayed here as pre wedding hotel. We enjoyed the best message ever received. The place is serene, the rooms and property are beautiful. You are a few blocks from dinning area, and no food service available at hotel. You can order coffee, and there is a bar. You can have food delivered. Beds are great, staff is great, messages are the best!

Staff was friendly and very sweet. Very responsive to our requests and questions. We didn’t get any food bc the chef’s hours were very short/limited. We used Uber Eats to obtain meals when we didn’t want to go out. The ambiance was great and relaxing. I wish the surrounding were more conducive to a retreat. Lots of dogs barking and the neighbors playing music until 3 am. We also wished the room had more items to keep you self sufficient. I would have liked a small refrigerator in the room to store cold drinks, creamer for my coffee or just water. We threw away a lot of food bc there was no way to keep it safe in the room. All in all it was still a very relaxing vacation. I absolutely loved the serenity of the room, the small Terrance with the hammock, and the tub in the room.

Amazing, relaxing stay!

Wow! Such an amazing stay here! Unfortunately we only had one night here because our flight was the next day, but can’t wait to go back to this place when I’m in Merida again. Everything about this stay was done with so much detail, a green tea go welcome my friend and I, a wet cloth with oils to help relax us immediately, a personalized written note in the room…everything was thought out! We were helped by Jessy and her team and it was such a pleasure! We needed a taxi at 4 am, and it was booked for us in a blink of an eye. My friend and I booked massages ( which include a facial btw) and were so good! Have already recommended to our friends that live in Merida, because everyone needs to stay here! Haha

they have 2 petting cats ! , my only complain was the lighting inside the room , it was very dimm, I told them and they lent me those round bloggers lights and no complains you have to use mosquito spray, the rooms are surrounded by nature the area is very quiet but really nothing interesting , I wish they were close to the center were the life is , but if you don’t mind walking like us , it’s not a problem
