While the Melia is a large property, below are pros and cons. Pros: Great pools. The golf cart service to get around is great and needed. If you are a "Level" guest you have personal concierge service to help you book activities and get room service. The villas with own pool are a wonderful family get-away to relax in. Cons: You may have items stolen from your room (we had multiple items of lower value stolen, which I suspect the young staff wanted to try - but the value isn't the point, it's that you can't trust items being left in your room). There is only one dine out option at Jetty Restaurant that offers a unique menu, other Melia's tend to have more. Depending on what level of patron you are you may also get to eat at the Level restaurant which has a set dinner menu. There isn't a lot of beach for walking on when the tide is in if you are looking for lots of walks. We also found getting our in-room water refilled was a continual problem, we'd ask for water in the morning and at 7 pm still be asking for water in our room. You are also far way from Stone Town, so if you want to explore other island areas be prepared for 1 12/ hour drive across or up island, which can take a large portion of your day. Finally, management's idea of help after I submitted a survey was to give a resort credit to replace our lost items - not helpful.

Initially we had some issues with our villa and with the condition of its balcony, which was due for refurbishment as the neighbouring villa was being worked on - so it wasn’t a great start, however the staff were attentive and sorted us out by relocating us a brand new private villa which in one word was WOW! Everything else was excellent and would most certainly recommend.

This is my second time staying at Meliá, and it won’t be my last. It’s not only because the hotel and grounds are beautiful. It’s the staff, they are exceptional, they’re the most friendly, smiley, professional and provide amazing service. Every room is cleaned twice a day and I’ve left valuables lying around and everything has always been safe. My only complaint this time was that there was no working light in the shower but other than that everything was 10/10.

Be aware that there are tiers to the "all inclusive", and you pay extra for anything outside of your tier. Food options are not that great at all restaurants, especially buffet. Customer service is great around hotel, albeit some servers seeming overworked and over it. Rooms are nice layout but the mattress was extremely hard/stiff, bathroom had repairs that are noticably bad work (paint different color from rest of wall over a patched area, corners with discolored caulking) - which are strange for 5 star hotels. Nothing really in surrounding area, but property is large and has a lot of walking areas.

Lovely cosy retreat private hotel

Melia was a beautiful hotel with a very cosy room. The room was modern designed, private and was very comfortable. It offered the perfect solo retreat for me. A few observations, the level had signs that said adults only yet saw alot of children playing around the pool and breakfast there. 2ndly i think the front desk lady has to educate guests about the advantages of the level properly and not only the map of the premises. I felt like i missed out on a few priviledges the level offered that i wasnt informed about. 3rdly i feel the level guests should have access to the beach cabanas on a first come first serve basis. After paying almost 800 pounds for one night stay i thought it was abit weird to still be charged to use the beach cabana bed for only 30min when i wanted to one morning. The pier food was just o, i had higher expectations The overall hotel premises is nice and cosy and i would stay here again.

This was an exceptional stay. The accomodations at The Level were beautiful and clean and beyond what I expected. Every detail was considered e.g. The toiletries were top notch and the room had everything you could need including beach blankets beach bags, umbrellas, steamer for your clothes.The list is endless. The pool areas ( there where several) were comfortable relaxing and clean and there were several activities, games and excursons. The Spa is amazing and the gym had everything one needs. The staff were friendly and the service impeccable from reception, restuarant service, housekeeping and the guys driving the shuttles within the resort. The grounds were beautiful and quiet with accress to a large expanse of the coastline. The only thing that needs improving is the food. For the cost and the level of excellence in other aspects of the resort, the food offerings need to be improved in terms of range of options and flavour. I also koted that there were some kids in the adults only section. They were well behaved and did not bother me but others may not appreciate it. Neither of these, would stop me from going back in a heartbeat. one of my best vacations ever.

WoW, definitely an amazing resort to stay while you're visiting beautiful Zanzibar. As the oldest resort on the island/in the area, definitely couldn't tell. The grounds are very well kept, rooms are cozy and absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Romantic Villa, The Level and it was definitely worth it. Separate from the other rooms providing privacy, but just a short walk from everything. Carts are available for transport around the property considering its massive size. Would have enjoyed a little more variety on the dining options. After the third day, the menus/buffets became repetitive. The staff is amazing! Everyone was so accommodating and eager to help in any way. I love the mantra "Hakuna Matata". For them it's more than just a line from a movie, but really a way of life. Everyone is so peaceful and live in harmony. A bit of anxiety at night with the large water bugs outside and geckos, but honestly we only saw a few during our 6 day stay. Our room came with personal can of bug/insect spray. Beware of the giant snails if you're out walking at night! LoL, they are completely harmless, but definitely a sight to see if you're not used to it. Guest Services at the main property and The Level are the best! They set up dinner reservations for you and check on you via WhatsApp. Really nice touch to have a special cake prepared for our wedding anniversary. A bit far from city center Stone Town - (1 hr). The room offered was not what was booked through hotels.com. There was construction in the area where we had booked. I personally in the group had to leave to find a room elsewhere because staff said they didn’t even have rooms like the one advertised on hotels.com

Completely messed up the reservation. The room offered did not match what we booked on hotels.com. They were unwilling to fix it so one person had to leave the property to get a room elsewhere.
