Vacations Close To Kaulu Paoa Heiau

This was a last minute booking literally! When we arrived we were greeted by Chris & Philip who were both kind & funny. Chris & his very silly jokes made us giggle and we actually went back for another joke upon checking out. And I even got a beautiful bottle of wine when we arrived! Thank you Philip. Superb BTW! This property is older & historic. John Wayne shot a movie & stayed there. Who knew!!!! Rooms were small charming & quaint. Bed very comfortable! Great shower pressure too! Lovely Hawaiian music playing in the courtyard and bummed we had no time for the pool. And there were a few adorable cats, the roosters of course and a beautiful peacock greeted us am. I’d def stay here again 💕. Dana

The outside grounds were disappointing. The tiles on the pool deck were falling apart. The sand in the kiddie pool hurt our feet.

This is my "go to" property when booking on Kaua'i. I travel a lot for work and I like that it feels more like home than in a resort room. Parking is right outside the units which is a huge plus! Remember to check your email for your room code information & instructions to avoid showing up at the office necessarily.

The property itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, the staff completely ruined the experience for us. The manager/owner was kind, thoughtful, and much easier to communicate with, but our interactions with the front desk staff were consistently rude, snappy, and unhelpful. We were staying there right before Hurricane Lowell, and when we tried to ask questions and get information about the situation, we were made to feel like our questions were a bother. We were not given clear updates or guidance about important things such as the restaurant closing, how we should prepare, or whether there were any evacuation procedures or safety information we needed to know. We also had a misunderstanding regarding a deposit amount. Instead of trying to help resolve the issue, the front desk staff was extremely rude and dismissive, to the point that we had to ask to speak with a manager. Thankfully, the manager was much more understanding and willing to work with us to find a solution. However, even while we were on the phone with the manager, the front desk employee continued making faces and displaying an attitude toward us, which made the entire situation even more uncomfortable. Ultimately, we decided to leave early because we no longer felt comfortable staying there, especially with a hurricane approaching and our concerns about whether we could rely on the staff for proper communication and safety information.
