Great location - although lots of stairs if that's an issue. The property is beautiful and within easy walking distance to downtown Highlands. The lobby and bar looked really nice, and we were looking forward to coming back from dinner and grabbing a cocktail, and just hanging out, but were told at 730pm that there was a private party and that those areas were closed off to guests. I don't think I have ever heard of closing the lobby to guests - pretty disappointing.

We enjoyed our stay at the Highlander Mountain Home -spending our 25th anniversary there. We hope to return soon. Sarah was delightful and attentive. She provided answers to all of our questions. We had enjoyable conversations with the restaurant manager (and learned of her family’s long history in the community) as well as the staff members - Maggie, Abbie and Graham. The location was perfectly situated in the middle of town. Highlands is a wonderful community with gorgeous nature surrounding it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Highlander Mountain House .. with a few caveats. First the good: The staff were friendly and helpful, the location is ideal - right in the heart of downtown easily walkable to many shops and restaurants. The room was attractive with soft linens and quality toiletries. However, the room was very small, and as such it didn't feel like the owners utilized the space efficiently. The nightstand space on each side of the bed was decorated with snacks (for purchase), coffee accoutrements, books, records, record players, games, etc. While all of these were thoughtful touches and useful for entertainment purposes, it left no real place to put anything. There were no additional shelves or tables that could be used to place items other than the floor. A small luggage rack was provided which can accomodate one suitcase. It then became piled with all our other belongings because I didn't want to put my purses, coat, jewelry box etc on the floor. Even if we had chosen to use the provided record player, there isn't really anywhere to place it in usable position besides the bed. I would still stay here again, but it would be nice if there were less entertainments in the room and more useable space.
