Lovely hotel, beautiful location by river, handy for local places of interest.Hadrians wall, lots of great walks, lovely villages nearby. Room good, clean and spacious, food excellent at breakfast and in restaurant. Staff, particularly on reception were very helpful. Highly recommend this hotel, and would love to stay again in future.

Check in was quick, staff offered to book us a table for dinner but declined. Room was clean and bed was comfy. Bathroom could do with an upgrade, rust and black marks throughout but otherwise clean. I’d say a fridge in the room would have been handy. Lovely outdoor space and peaceful area.

Room was fine, although the soap dispensers leave a mess on the wall. A pool area is closed but we could swim in the river which was probably better. Beautiful view from the restaurant for the ok food. Breakfast a little underwhelming.

The bar area, restaurant all very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Situated on the river with amazing views from the dining room. Also the opportunity to sit outside in this beautiful setting. Very nice breakfast and evening meals. On the downside. The room we had was not very soundproof there was a wardrobe across a door which meant next doors tv was very loud. Our tv had a very tired handset. There is no lift so be prepared to do quite a bit of walking up and down stairs and corridors.

The hotel is in a lovely position at the side of a river and is handy for visiting Hadrian's Wall and the nearby towns of Hexham and Corbridge. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and not to be missed, especially the evening meals.

Lovely location and great beer garden. Beds were comfortable and clean. The main issue in the bedroom was the very low water pressure in the shower making it almost impossible to have a decent shower. The other issue was the slow service in the restaurant. It was busy when we first arrived so that was fair enough but even when it died down it was still very slow and we could see our drinks waiting at the bar but no one to bring them over until we asked. And breakfast again the service was slow, having to ask to be served on every occasion. Overall the hotel is good for the price with a lovely location and comfy beds so can’t complain too much but just a shame about the service.

Very friendly staff. Lovely location and setting. Some areas of the hotel seemed to be unused/undergoing renovation ( garden and ? Indoor pool area.)Not that this mattered to us but it gives an air of neglect. Our room was perfectly clean and very comfortable. Some public areas need a bit of updating. Breakfast was lovely. Our bar meal was adequate. Staff were very helpful

Clean room, good shower. Heated rack in bathroom is nice for drying hiking clothes. My room faced the river and had a wonderful view. The mattresses needed to be replaced. There was a clear divot in the middle of each. There are no elevators and no bellmen but the man at reception very nicely brought my bag up for me. Dinner in the restaurant was really good and the cafe across the street was also quite good for lunch. Didn’t eat breakfast at the hotel so don’t know if it was worth the price. Hotel is right on Hadrians Wall trail and only a short distance from Chester’s Roman fort so if you’re hiking it’s a great location.

The check in was nice and easy and the receptionist was very friendly and informative, went to the room from the outside through a door at the side which was in much need of an update, as was the rest of the hotel, the room was basic but very clean had a view of the disused pool and overgrown garden, the view of the river however from the beer garden was very beautiful. The food was nice and staff friendly but It took forever to come and it seemed very disorganised, one hour forty five minutes for one course, had to ask for the dessert menu, I understand it had been a busy day but thought it was too long. We had a nice stay but maybe stay somewhere else in future.

The George hotel is historically stunning!! The entire hotel holds so much beautiful character, from the sitting rooms to the restaurant. The restaurant is also gorgeous, overlooking the river and their lovely gardens, not to mention that the food was very much fine dining for a low price.

Stayed over New Year and decided to stay and extra night as we felt so comfortable as staff and food were good. Room was a little small for a 'premium ' but adequate. The bar/ lounge is great, lovely fires and a lot of residents brought their dog, the staff engaged with all👍👍. Look forward to seeing how they upgrade the hotel after the January shutdown. We will be back.
