Loved this hotel. Beautiful and great location and excellent breakfast. The only tiny thing is that the gym is sooooo small. Luckily it never got too busy. The housekeeping team were SO amazing! They worked so hard, did a great job, and were so sweet and helpful as well!

The hotel is conveniently located in the old town area of Funchal. This is close to many restaurants, near the marina (where all the tour boats go from), near public transport, taxi’s and quick Bolt pick ups, and also where the cable car goes up to Monte. The hotel itself was very nice, good rooms and staff were very helpful. We did have an issue with the drains (producing an awful smell) in our original room and after a little bit of discussion we were given a new room for the trip. Breakfast was very good.

Centrally located in town. Tons of restaurants and bars to pick from. Great hotel overall. Only disadvantage is parking is either on street or in a parking garage requiring you to bring your luggage too and from where you park.

Hotel was well located close to the marina and centre of Funchal. Room was nice enough although the view was of a neighbouring building. The gym was limited and the rooftop pool was very small and seating limited. Breakfast was okay but it was a bit of a scrum because there was limited space. Finally when we wanted the bedding changing we did as requested on the card in the room but despite requesting this on two occasions the bedding wasn’t changed which was disappointing. Not a 5 star hotel based upon previous 5 star hotels we’ve stayed at

The Barcelo is the perfect place to stay. It is close to the water front, cathedral, main town. The oldest street and cable car are just a five minute walk. The hotel itself is lovely. Breakfast is delicious and the buffet selection well stocked. Staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooftop pool, although not very deep, is lovely to cool down in. The views from the rooftop are delightful in the day and night. Definitely worth staying here.
