Great stop after a long day of driving. Hotel was quiet and clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Gym was small but had enough for three of us to workout for a bit. Pool looked clean and refreshing but we didn't jump in. Excellent Mexican restaurant across the street and an DQ and A&W by the truck stop.

This hotel really needs updated. As soon as you walk in you can smell a very strong airfreshner thats not very appealing. They have it where you have to dial 0 at the check in to notify the person you are there. It took us two times to get the persons attention. He was not very friendly. Walls in the lobby were dirty along with the elevator. The room was not very clean either. Floors were dirty along with the shower/bath. The lady's that checked us out in the morning were very nice.

The air conditioner never stopped so it was freezing and we could not adjust it. We asked for extra blankets and they said no. The pull and hot tub were great and i everything was clean! Breakfast was very slim

Our king bed was comfortable, and that’s not only the case in lower priced hotels. We chose Ellis because comparable hotels in surrounding communities were more expensive, especially Hays which had a very high tax rate. The air conditioning in the room worked well in extreme heat. Breakfast was simple but good. Mexican restaurant across the street was very good. Parking was easy and close. Good stay on our way home from vacation.

Room itself seemed to be clean. The bathroom was gross. The toilet had mildew and mold built up. The shower’s drain was clogged. Nothing like taking a shower with water up to your ankles with dirty water from cleaning yourself. The hotel already has a good rating I think that says it all.

Building needs quite a bit of TLC. Hallways reek of cat. The Ice machine just has a sign on it stating, "See Front Desk for Ice", the door to the pool is broken, the pool is freezing cold, wild cats roaming within the pool area unchecked due to an exterior door they could get in and out of. The Hot Tub was well heated at least, but is not lit up at all, so it's in a darkened corner of the room. The jets do not activate, even while the timer switch for it clicks away. Nearly all of the public spaces to the hotel need work and care. The staff was hardly present or visible at all while here. Thankfully, the room we stayed in was actually nice, clean (including the smell!), and comfortable. It's just a shame that getting to the room meant passing through a hallway that reeked of cat urine and past busted features that need work. The property proudly displays old customer review scores throughout, but the reality of the property does not echo those awards. Thankful this was just a one-night stay, because this property needs some love and attention.
