We truly enjoyed our stay at Pillar’s House. Tony and Edna were wonderful, kind and very helpful. The location is easy access to the main attractions via the tram, quick tram ride to Princess street. It is out of the hustle and bustle which is nice. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance (pub style as well as higher end). There is a communal kitchen where basic continental items available for breakfast which is very handy. Also has a microwave if you want to heat up food. Would highly recommend Pillar’s House!

6/10 Okay

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
This is a property for people looking for inexpensive stays, maybe a step up from a hostel. They do let you use the laundry and you do get the run of the kitchen. The food provided was descent - fresh fruit, cereals, prewrapped baked goods and tea and coffee any time you wanted it, but you do wash your own dishes. They attempted to decorate, but everything was worn and tired looking. The proprietor was friendly and gave us good restaurant recommendations. The immediate street out front is okay, but might put some people off because of graffiti. The tram runs on the street out front. It’s very handy for transportation, but those who are sensitive to noise, might not be happy. Within 1-6 blocks is a thriving and fun area with good pubs and restaurants between the B&B and the Leith River.

We received a warm welcome from Anthony, he was really nice and provided good insights and what to do in the city. This was our first accommodations when we arrived and we could not ask for a better place. Well located, not to far from the city center by tram, in a quiet neighbor with all the commodities nearby.

Building is right on tram only street, so quiet for traffic at night. Closest tram stop is 4 min walk, and then 10-15 min ride into Edinburgh. Shared kitchen has all amenities for cooking. Beds are comfortable, bedding is super comfortable. Shower pressure is solid. Some restaurants within 5 min walk, with Tesco Superstore about 5 min away.

Our family of 4 really enjoyed our stay at Pillars. Being from Canada, we missed having air conditioning, but Edinburgh wasn't as hot as back home and the fan in the room worked well to cool the room at night with a cross-breeze from the open windows. The deep tub was a luxury after a long day walking up and down hills. The kitchen was clean and had a nice selection of equipment to use. It was lovely chatting with other guests in the common kitchen area. The neighbourhood was nice to walk around with a convenient Boots and Tesco, and transit was easy to get to. Occasionally we wished it was easier to pop back to the hotel from Old Town, but we the money we saved by staying outside the centre of town meant we had more to spend at all the locally owned pubs and coffee shops. We will stay there again on our next visit!

Great location to get into the centre of Edinburgh via a tram or bus, or to get to the cafes and pubs in The Shore area. The staff were friendly and informative. The parking was good and seemed to be ample places. The provision of complimentary drinks and snacks was a bonus. Will stay here again when we next visit Edinburgh.
