I really loved how big the room was. Everything was perfect and they had great room service. The young man who also helps with the luggage to your room was very helpful I forget his name but everything about the environment was great.

It is an ideal location. It used to be a much nicer experience but the ownership has changed and it is a bit more run down, the food is less tasty and there is just a bit more wear and tear on the property. Some of the staff no longer speak English well, which was a problem for me with regard to communication. I had also had colleagues leave me an item and I had been sent a photo. The staff could not find it and I had to use the time stamp on the photo for the staff to call the person who was working that shift to eventually get the item - several hours later. The staff are, however, pleasant and the location is excellent.

It is clear that the changed management at the hotel over the last couple of years has resulted in a steady downward spiral in terms of all services. If you were of the staff are able to communicate effectively, the breakfast has definitely gone down, the appointments in the room are minimal and the pool is not maintained like it used to be. The staff don’t seem to be knowledgeable about the city as much as they used to, and there is less pride in the people who work there.

We enjoyed the wonderful free breakfast and the ability to dine in the hotel for dinner. We were located close to all the things we wished to see and were within walking distance. The employees were particularly helpful and pleasant.

Comfy stay for business

Tasteful room, comfy bed, nice bathtub, good house keeping, great location. The safe didn’t work though. The dinner was very good (lamb chops) but the breakfast rather boring and far from the Serena standard. The hotel lacks the charm and common facilities I’ve seen elsewhere at Serena Hotels.

Good bed but the rest is....

This hotel has some good qualities, but it has a long way to go before it can consider itself five-star. Good nice breakfast large rooms Big comfortable bed Bad broken shower—impossible to find the hot water or turn water off Elevator keycard scanner is decades old, doesn’t work—have to scan 7-8 times to get anywhere Pool always out of clean towels Pool boy was rude and arrogant Pool area too small front desk staff cold and unwelcoming tried to arrange a transfer to Samarkand through the hotel, hoping to avoid being scammed by a taxi. We were quoted a huge price which they later dropped by 35% (?). We asked for a written agreement (price & drop-off at hotel in Samarkand) to avoid a hidden charge for crossing the border etc. (we are well-travelled and this has happened before). The manager said this was impossible as it was Sunday, but assured us we would pay the quoted price. • We said we appreciated his assurance but that it would be useless when we had crossed the border in a stranger’s car, no longer had internet to contact him etc. He called the driver who now said there would be a 30% tax on top of the quoted price. I told him this is exactly why I wanted the agreement in writing. A lot more back & forth involved the manager laughing in my face for requiring this (we thought this may be because I was a woman, as front desk staff always greeted us with, “hello sir” and ignored me). It worked out, but this level of service is unacceptable for a 5-star hotel.

Lovely and impressive hotel conveniently located on a beautiful boulevard close to many eating options and not far from some of the major sights. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. The pool looked nice, but was understandably crowded on the very hot days I was there. Wifi worked great and shower pressure was good. Temperature controls in room worked wonderfully. Room key needed to operate elevators. Highly recommended!

This is not a 5* hotel at all. I give this a maximum of 4*. It’s clean but the staff were extremely helpless, and had no knowledge about anything. Even a simple question of “any suggestion for a good restaurant” was answered as “I don’t know.”. Breakfast was not on s 5* hotel level. Very ordinary but ok. The rooms were outdated, but I guess in Tajikestan this was considered ok.

Clean and friendly hotel. however I feel the staff require more training. I am a member of the Serena Prestige Club and I always have a problem getting them to log my points. On checkout I was told they couldnt add or check my points as it was late and no manager was available to do it! The other issue I had was the hotel bar running out of beer and also not having and nuts or crisps to serve with drinks. These are small issues, however for a five star hotel these problems shouldnt exist. I have been staying at this hotel for around 3 -4 years now and always had the same issues
