“I was really looking forward to my stay at The Candlesticks. However as soon as I entered, I began to have my doubts. The bar area, where the owner received us, looked particularly shabby and it smelt musty. It was 3pm (an hour after checking-in should have started) and the room wasn't ready. It wasn't such a big deal, but it was another warning sign. I was in a single room, which made a certain saying about a cat spring to mind. “Great little find. Modern and clean rooms and great food options available”

“The staff were lovely and couldn't have been better. Our room had a bathroom across the hall which opened with a key. A little strange and not great for a 3am wee. We ate here and the food was ok.”

“Plenty of parking available. Beautifully comfortable room, with excellent shower and separate bath.”

“Very welcoming staff and comfortable stay, we enjoyed eating at the pub too and were able to run a tab on the room which was very convenient. Breakfast was fantastic and varied. Parking was a bit tricky on arrival but was sorted, it’s worth getting in touch before arrival to understand arrangements for this. Would definitely stay again if we visit Oakham in future”
